Based on the glowing review in DMN, we tried Zander's in Plano for the first time last night. We both ordered the pho, which was very different from what I'm accustomed to. Instead of being flavored with all the usual spices (e.g. anise), the broth seemed to only have carmelized onions, resulting in a-- for lack of a better term-- blander dish. I've heard that the different regions of Vietnam have their own styles of pho. The owners are from Hue (central Vietnam), and I understand that most pho we have in America is considered the Saigon/Southern Vietnam version, which probably accounts for the difference.

Not necessarily bad, just different.
