Thanks to TonyC for the early warning regarding the opening of Younique Cafe in the former AAA Seafood location at 220 W. Garvey in Monterey Park. You do have to give credit to AAA Seafood for hanging in there for almost 25 year without much of a buzz. Younique Cafe is good for what it is, a Hong Kong style cafe, though I continue to question the need for new restaurants of this ilk. They do have a list of 50 lesser seen Younique dishes, such as fish with crab and corn and stir fried duck tongues.
Meanwhile Be Be Restaurant has set up shop offering Taiwanese fare where Chuan Yu Noodles used to be at 525 W. Valley in Alhambra. I guess Alhambra isn't Rowland Heights so there may be room for another local source of stinky tofu and pork chops. They're certainly doing good enough business, at least as of now.
On the other side of the ledger, confirming my suspicion from a drive by last month, O T Kitchen on Garvey is gone, a "For Lease" sign in the window. Guess they confused everybody by switching cooking styles so often at that location.
