i was just reading a thread on gen topics where jerome linked a recipe from shanghai for a dish of apricot kernels with cabbage. the kernels in the picture look young and green, like a vegetable. i'm more familiar using them when they are older & nut-like, as a subsitute for bitter almond flavoring. anyway, can you find these young apricot kernels in sgv or are they rare? i'm assuming they'll have the green fuzzy outer coating & you dig them out of their pits like the young almonds that you see in persian markets in the early spring. just curious if anybody has ever spotted them locally.
