Last night went down to Chinatown, with a crazing for soup dumplings and armed w/ a Chinese friend's recommendation of "Lao Yu Zheng", which we discovered is more commonly known by the name on its sign: "Yeah Shanghai Restaurant". It's directly across the street from New Green Bo and is a long thin restaurant, far less crowded than Joe's Shanghai (where the saturday night wait was 30 minutes). Quieter. Nice friendly service. We ordered:
-- Soup Dumplings. Perhaps less crab and more pork than Joe's, but still very tasty.
-- Fried Pork Dumplings. A little bland and dry. Along with the scallion panckes, these were the weakest item.
-- Chicken and Chestnut casserole: good winter food, not greasy at all and full of lovely chunks of ginger.
-- Steamed yellow fish. Solid.
While we weren't completely wowed, this is a pleasant joint that i plan to return to for the soup dumplings and to try out some other things on the menu (a fried fish&seaweed dish at another table looked intriguing).
Anyone else visited it recently?
