Finally had a meal there. Menu is same as Luger's. Food is great: onion rolls, sauce same as Luger's. Steak - porterhouse for 2 was spectacular! Perfectly cooked, flavorful. Started with dozen oysters - plump, briny goodness.
We didn't get a starch side, so can't comment on that. Steamed asparagus was what it was. Served with a bearnaise sauce I believe. Didn't eat it. Not into such a heavy sauce when indulging in pounds of steak!
Service was same sort of lackadaisical old world service as Luger's. No water brought to table. No sense of urgency. But that was OK, and expected.
Wine list much, much better than Luger's. Wines by the glass though were absolute crap. I mean real plonk. As my partner wasn't drinking, sort of detracted from my experience to eat this beautiful meat with a glass of Penfold's cab/merlot blend. I had first tried the Kenwood which was even worse.
I'm sure I'll catch flack for this, but have to add... It was the ugliest crowd I have ever seen in a NYC restaurant. My friend and I played "find the good looking person" and couldn't. I mean, really ugly, poorly put together, odd crowd.
