I looking for a recipe for May wine. I have a some sweet woodruff growing in the backyard which has provided me the inspiration.
The sweet woodruff smells exactly like Mexican Vanilla. I found out it smells this way because both contain coumarin which is banned in the U.S. because it is toxic and carcinogenic.
I probably won't actually be making any May wine unless I can be convinced otherwise.
I have searched the Internet and found many recipes but are most are somewhat suspect or are vague as to the exact ingredients. "Take a bottle of Rhine wine, add a cup of sugar and and a handfull of sweet woodruff" etc.
In addition to a recipe I would be interested in hearing about any traditions, peculiar folkways or untimely deaths resulting from May wine.
