West Side Lounge/Independent

Ate at both this week. West Side was excellent. Our cocktails of choice were a lime-basil martini and a sake w/ strawberries. Both were really summery. We split the green tomato appetizer. Nicely fried in a coating and topped w/ manchego cheese. Entrees were a very tasty grilled salmon w/ Israeli couscous, and instead of a main dish, I had the red & yellow tomato soup w/ a very cute and delicious avocado popsicle. Just a great light meal, and well-presented too.

Was at the Independent for a brunch today. I like their dinners, but brunch was a bit of a let-down. Five adults, and the best dish seemed to be the eggs benedict. Not sure if it's due to Atkins, but the omelets came with a scant handful of greens, a small portion of homefries, and no toast. Plus, it just wasn't that interesting. No herbs or real seasoning in my tomato-cheddar omelet. I'll go back for dinner, but not for brunch.
