If you live/work in the West 30s-40s, there's a good chance you've been aware of the Stiles produce market at Ninth and 41st, and aware that it closed at the end of last month. It's been a great place for cheap fruits and vegetables, and although there's still the north store on 52nd, they hope to re-open near the same place.
They're hoping to take over a space where there had been a senior center, and there's a notice posted saying that it will be up for discussion with the city, and are inviting people to come and support them: January 16 at 6:30, at 307 West 43rd. It's really a worthwhile business. They manage to be markedly cheaper than any supermarket chain that I know of. The remaining store is 212/582-3088, if you want to call for information.
