Restaurants & Bars 4

Two weeks in NYC

I'm an ex-New Yorker heading back to the city for a two-week vacation. I've lived in Astoria, I've been a regular of Chinatowns in Manhattan and Flushing, I've eaten my way through the Korean restaurants in the West 30s. But... it's been about four years since my last lengthy visit. And I need a refresher course.

We like to eat ethnic -- and stay on the cheap side. (Although we usually like to have one or two blow-out, pricey meals when we're in town.) With that in mind, what are some recommendations? I'd particularly like to know about stuff in Astoria area (where I'll be staying) -- Greek and other ethnicities there. (Is Zenon, an old favorite, still open?). But we'll be in Manhattan and venturing to Brooklyn as well.

Favorite cuisines include Chinese, Korean, Greek (as mentioned above), Mexican, South American, Indian... well, I guess I like just about everything. And I'm very curious about places and neighborhoods that have emerged since our last visit.

Also, does anyone recommend a good, up-to-date book that explores New York's ethnic communities/restaurants?
