My weekend was a wash, from a chow standpoint. Friday I arrived so hungry I had a splitting headache. Hubby was told several (okay, like a hundred) times that I *needed* to eat, but didn't seem to hear me. Finally at 10:30 I sent him to McDonalds, while I lay on the hotel bed & groaned. Ugh.
Saturday lunch was at Leo's on Market (Camp Hill?). I had a baked Italian hoagie. (Is that the right term? We call 'em subs here.) It was ok. The bread (a baked pizza dough thing) was pretty good. Ham, *wonderful* salami, lettuce, tomato, oil & vinegar. It wasn't a huge portion, but I couldn't finish it. Hubby orderded a slice with P&M. I tried to warn him ... Actually, the fact that custom slices are by nature reheated didn't bother him, and he liked it.
Sat. dinner at the Sierra Madre Saloon (not sure where it is - I was pretty lost by this point). This was also a toss-up. The ubiquitous chip basket was actually impressive, with fresh-fried flour tortillas rather than from-the-bag corn. The salsa was wierd but edible. We ordered the ultimate nachos to share, pretty much because we couldn't afford anything else. They were good from a basic food standpoint. The ingredients were reasonably fresh and the meat & beans both had good flavor & texture. It would easily have fed at least one more person for dinner. Nothing stellar. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't go back.
Sun. lunch was at Slack's. No further discussion necessary - Ugh. Again.
Didn't get a chance to try the Italian recommends, but I am going back next weekend.
Hubby's major problem seemed to be money. We don't have much. And he is convinced that local places will always be more expensive than McDonalds-esque chains. The restaurants we ended up at (except Leo's) didn't help. Any suggestions for changing his mind?
