Waldorf Astoria Area Cheap/Kid Eats

My sister and daughter will be spending about 10 days in NYC at the Waldorf Astoria for a Dance Convention and Competition.

Sister is a single mom who has saved for 2-years to make this trip happen for my 10 year old niece. While she will try to visit a local grocer and do some cheap in room dining - they will likely need/want to dine out once a day.

Niece has a pretty refined palatte so typical kid fare not a necessity (given a choice she'll choose Shrimp Scampi over Chicken Fingers any day). Variety and value are the main objective.

Looking for multiple receommendations within walking distance of hotel (Waldorf Astoria) or within easy reach by Subway. Sister not very good with logistics so need to keep it simple.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
