Vintage enamelware safe to cook on?

thirtytwopaws | Nov 15, 201803:07 AM     1

I don’t know much about cookware but I am trying to replace all my pieces that have a non-stick/Teflon type coating (and trying to do so without spending a ton of money). I picked up an old ceramic coated square skillet at a thrift store recently. No brand info on the piece, but after poking around on Google, I believe it is porcelain enameled steel made by United States Stamping Company. Not sure about the date. The interior surface is in good condition, with a few light scratches but no chips. There appears to be some heat damage on the bottom. It seems there may be some concern about lead in vintage enamelware pieces, so I am wondering if this skillet is safe for cooking and would appreciate any advice. Thanks!
