Verveine Review

Sierramum | Jul 25, 2004 09:59 PM

First off, I have to give kudos to Leslieville Guy and the other Chowhounders for recommending Verveine as a good place to eat in Leslieville!

We went there for dinner on Friday night and were duly impressed.

5 year old had the BBQ short ribs with mini salads and a side of frites. Roasted banana ice cream with a homemade cookie for dessert.

Hubby had the firecracker shrimp and the duo of scallops and pickerel on new potatoes, spinach, and julienned daikon. Flourless chocolate cake with a scoop of the roasted banana ice cream for dessert.

I had the Boston bibb salad and the seared arctic char on purple potatoes and sprouts, in pernod cream. Ordered the creme brulée with homemade biscuit (cookie) for dessert.

I have to say that we could find absolutely nothing wrong with any of the dishes we had. Daughter just LOVED the ribs. Too bad she ate every last bit, while hubby and I looked on enviously. The frites were also very good, and tasted great with the BBQ sauce from the ribs! And the creme brulé! The best I've had so far.

We happily (and literally) cleaned each and every one of our plates. Except daughter wasn't too fond of the two mini salads her ribs came with: a coleslaw and a potato salad. They were a bit different, to say the least.

We loved the decor and layout of the restaurant itself, and have no complaints whatsoever about the service. Our waiter was very polite and attentive, the girl who came with the bread basket gave us three choices to choose from (all of which were quite yummy) and was constantly refilling our water glasses, and there was another lady who helped with delivering our food.

My sister-in-law will be visiting us this October and hubby says that we will definitely be bringing her here for dinner!
