Just came back from a wonderful time in Vancouver. Thank you all for the excellent advice/info. Had a truly divine dinner at Banana Leaf on Denman... never had anything like Roti before! Tried to get into Hapa and Guu but was unsucessful. Wait at Hapa was 45 minutes and Guu had a line out the door. But, my husband was happy to discover a fairly decent eastern european mkt right around the corner from Guu. Ended up at Cafe Crepe on Robson, which was good, but not nearly as good as "La Bretagne Creperie" off Robson on Jervis, which we went to for dinner the night before. Crepes there were great and the french onion soup was one of the best I've had!
Surprised to discover most of the good restaurants in Van are ethnic/asian influenced. Reminded me of Amsterdam, where best food is Indonesian with not much "Dutch" cuisine available.
LOVED Granville Is and ended up there three times during our three day visit. Loved the coffee cakes at Terra, the bagel and sausage place and has a wonderful butter tart at the pie place. GREAT public market!! All in all, a good time was had by all... can't wait for a return visit soon.
