I used to live in NYC but now live in LA, and I'll be visiting a friend on the UWS for the weekend. I need a few places that serve very healthy dishes (salads, chicken, fish with very little oil/butter...preferally a place where you can pick your sides too). My dr. put me a very restrictive diet. The thing is, these places need to be very reasonable. Doesn't have to be fancy. I'm a grad student without a lot of money. For dinner I would like to spend no more than $11-13 (or less!), and I also need a lunch/brunch place. Also are there any really great salad/hot bars for take away. I know about Whole Foods but any other place? How's Fairway's salad bar these days?
