We are making a long-awaited trip to New Orleans this coming Thursday through Monday for an alumni weekend at my alma mater. Reading these boards, I am simply heartsick and homesick for New Orleans. It will be me and my husband (his first time as an adult to NOLA) and my two kids, ages 4 and 1. I don't want to overlap too much with the already helpful notes on dining here with kids, but I was hoping to get advice on my specific geographical and aspirational food needs. We won't have a car (and, can you confirm -- is this still a good idea?); we're staying on the St. Charles streetcar line, and will be Uptown for a few of those events and reminiscing and then in the FQ for sightseeing. What are the best places Uptown within reasonable walks (we walk a lot as former NYC and current Cambridge, MA residents) of the streetcar line, and same with the Quarter? I want to show my husband the classic tastes, some variety (I'm sure he's never heard of a muffaletta) and taste the city as it is now. All this, and with little ones. Regarding kids, I am more interested in places' level of welcome to their presence rather than the menu for them. They'll eat what we are eating or a granola bar on the way. It's been many years since I've been able to get back, so things have changed a lot.
Thanks in advance!
