I just had an OK lunch at Yamo, which got me thinking back to the amazingly creative vegetarian meals that chef "Tawei" Lin used to concoct in that space around 2005. He always had a bottle of Jack Daniels on hand, and an artsy movie on the screen.
From what I can tell, he went on to open the "Experimental Thai Kitchen" over at Benders, until the fire shut them down in 2006. Perhaps then a stint at Thee Parkside. Fast forward to 2010 and he's running a Sunday thai/vietnamese brunch pop-up called "Three Papayas" out of Doc's Clock.
Tawei represented the innovative spirit I am starting to find lacking in the Mission and I'm curious to see what he is up to. Any info would be appreciated.
