Update on Penang Village, Santa Clara

Seeing “tanspace’s” post on Banana Tree in Fremont, guess I should weigh in on another Malaysian place that hasn’t gotten much air time here. If we’re giving Han Lukito Southeast Asian eating assignments, he might want to check out Penang Village in Santa Clara too. (vbg)

My brother and I tried it three weeks ago. We started with #2 Roti Egg, $3.95. I think this is what's known as roti telur with a thin filling egg and onion within a multi-layered griddled pancake and was served with a mildly spicy curry dipping sauce. It was rectangular and quite a bit larger than we expected. We found it flaky and very good, as I remembered Limster’s comment to me that nearly every roti with curry sauce he’s had in the States has been good. Whatever disappointments he’s had in execution of his native cuisine, for some reason, this one seems to come out right every time.

The giant drink in the picture, a fresh young coconut juice for $2.50 was quite a bargain here.
