Three-day-old Picnic is on 7th Ave South and Grove St, just south of Christopher. Had delicious eggplant salad ($4) followed by kofte, a grilled kebab of ground beef and lamb, lovely buttery rice, salad and chopped onions with parsley ($7). My companion had dolmas (quite good stuffed grape leaves with rice, raisins and peanuts, $4) before his sexy lamb shank braised with vegetables ($7). Dessert was a creamy, custardy rice pudding, light and not too sweet, topped with ground pistachios. A happy and very reasonably priced village discovery! Worth a trip! Phone: 212-206-7127.
