Tuesday night: a lil' busy, a lil' dark, a lil' cozy

Hi y'all -
looking for a good recommendation for dinenr tonight - and drinks, and maybe an all night talk fest - perhaps at the same place if it works. Have a good friend in from college whom i haven't seen in ages -.

I'd like tofind somewhere that will have a solid crowd of people so that we don't feel too isolated. Music would be fine... a cozy booth so we could talk would be good, but the bar is fine too.

Could you help me narrow these selections down? Or offer others? I've never been to any of these - exceptions noted

James' Gate (only eaten in DR)
Highland Kitchen (while this is a bit of a trek ... is it a worthwhile destination?)
Matt Murphy's Pub
Trattoria Toscana
B Side Lounge ( I haven't been in ages! how is it these days?)
Lucky's in South Boston (?)
Plough and Stars
Amrhein's (when does it close?)

... wow - mostly all pubs, eh?

Let me also tell you what i thought of and don't think would work ... i don't know if this helps?

*eastern standard will probably be a little too rush-y, and bright-ish.
*toro would be too food-centric ... we probably need something more about the company!
*Ivy might be nice - is the "grotto" open on Tuesdays? and will there be others there?
*Bin 26 would be a little too dining for us this time, again.
*silvertone doesn't offer the right atmosphere i think ...

Total speculation, I know. ANd ultimately, we could end up anywhere and have fun ... but that last push of comfort food, good bartending with no pretense, and ambience would make it better!
I know this strays from chow-only talk. but - thanks for the help,
