had a hankering for sushi, so i decided to check this place out after having driven by a hundred times.

overall assessment is that it's above average, and the best sushi i've had in the area since i moved down here from boston about a month ago. but that really doesn't mean crap, since i've only tried Sushi Yoshi and, uh, some other place in Carborro (IIRC). Both were forgettable, and Sushi Yoshi was particularly harmful.

i had the sashimi appetizer, with salmon, tuna, and "super white fish" (butterfish). all were very good, but a little skimpy on the servings for my liking. the butterfish is supposed to be their strength, but i thought it was just above average.

also had some hamachi, mackerel, whitefish, and a spicy tuna roll. mackerel was the best of this bunch.

rarely get dessert, but i was coaxed into getting their moshi ice cream (mango), which was very nice.

the price was fair ($28), the knife skills / prep also fair (if a little on the boring side), and the fish was pretty fresh & tasty. i like having 1 "cheap" sushi joint to frequent, and 1 top notch sushi joint to go to on better occasions. i think this might fit the bill for the cheap one. next stop for sushi is Waraji.
