Truffles review

jrabbit2727 | Jul 4, 2009 11:57 AM

Since Turffles will be closing down once the Four Seasons moves to its new location - I figured I should give this old school favorite a try. It had been a LONG time since I'd been - not exactly on the hot list these days. Once I found out about the $39 for 2 course or $49 for 3 course was in and we went on Thursday.

The room is still elegant - if a bit dated. Felt like I was in a resto that was once grand but was now just old. But it was nice to be in a resto that wasn't blasting music so you could hear each other and whose tables were spread out enough that you weren't on top of each other.

When we arrived they had the air conditioning cranked WAY up and my goosebumps had goosebumps. I asked them to turn in down and they were VERY accomodating. Took care of it immediately and them came back to make sure I was warmer. This high level of service continued throughout the meal.

So...the meal. Bottom line is that my meal was great. My husband's was ok.

I had the kampachi crudo which was lovely. The fish was very flavourful and the pairing with the mild grapefruit and radish was perfect. My main was the scallops with violet artichokes, baby potatoes and clams. I had them leave out the chorizo as I don't eat meat. The dish was amazing! One of the better scallop dishes I've had in a long time.

My husband started with the wild mushrooms and taglietelli (sp?) which was good but not great. He then had the lamb which was also good but not great. Also - they add $9 to the price of the lamb ....not sure why.

We each had a glass of wine and I had a glass of sparkling wine.

No desserts.

So our bill came to $144.

Do I think it was worth it? Sure. The food was good. The service was good. To try once before it is no longer...sure. But if it were going to stick around - I can't say I'd retrun. It feels dated and old without an attractive vibe and the food seems to be a bit hit or miss.
