Heading back to Montreal next week. Our first trip was amazing! We started at the Syrian restaurant Damas and we were blown away! We did the tasting menu and our waiter crafted a wine pairing from the glass pours. It is a meal we continue to talk about! The next day found us at Olive et Gourmando for an egg sandwich. Way too heavy a way to start the day for us but great place and fantastic server. Lunch was the DIVINE Bouillon Bilk. We adored this place. Every seat was taken and the everything about the experience was first rate. Except how full we were when we finished up AND the fact that we had 6:45 Joe Beef reservations. What to do? Off to Cloakroom. We explained to the bartender that we had just had a rather large lunch at BB and needed to get ready for Joe Beef and he crafted a couple of digestif-type drinks that worked the necessary magic. Joe Beef was great fun that night (we had the corner table by the window). The server was perfection. She sat down with us to work through the menu. The glass pour wine bottles were left on the table to top off our wines. The food was lovely with the rabbit being the real standout dish. We actually tried to add on another night in Montreal but our hotel (Hotel Gault) was fully booked. Hotel Gault was great btw -- and dog friendly so our golden retriever made the trip with us. Final meal was brunch at La Fabrique which was good but not of the same caliber as the other places.
Next week we are heading back to Damas and Bouillon Bilk (for lunch again) and are trying Le Bremners and Le Club Chasse et Pêche for the first time. We have a Saturday (and possibly Sunday) lunch open. Not a big "brunch" person (prefer lunch) and I was wondering if there are any lunch places you folks would recommend that are open on the weekend? Also - any good grocery stores near Hotel Gault (we rented an apartment room with a kitchen for breakfast etc.). Any other culinary experiences we should not miss?? Thank you in advance
