Triangle: Mama Dips

I paid a second visit to Mama Dip's this week and can now say definitively that it's both very mediocre and very overpriced. Most galling was a fried green tomato appetizer: $3.50 for four paper-thin slices of fried tomato. The desserts were also atrocious and pricey: $3.50 for a midget-sized slice of sweet potato pie, and bread pudding that was simply the worst I've ever tasted. I wouldn't know how to make bread pudding that lousy. My extended family and I had an array of entrees: BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, pan-fried liver, chitlings, etc., all of which had the heavy, greasy feel of leftovers.

Dinner for five was $115.

Amazingly, Mama Dips is NOT the worst restaurant in the Franklin Street area. That distinction goes to the execrable Valentino's, which seems to work on the assumption that its patrons are a bunch of ignorant, Southern rubes.
