Traveling with pie

I offered to provide a key lime pie for a potluck dinner. I'm unsure if I'll have enough time to bake it while I'm there, so I'm wondering about baking beforehand and flying with it. It would have no dairy, only eggs and non-dairy margarine.

My thought is to make it the night before, freeze it, then carry on the plane in a cooler, sans ice pack, to be consumed that night. Is this reasonable? What is the best way to freeze the pie?
Any better ideas?
