Toro Place Cafe, west of the river on the Monterey Hwy, has been dishing up big breakfasts and lunches to cowboys for more than 50 years. Still quite popular, a shady table on the patio today made for a pleasant lunch.

Mom had a burger, $5.75, and I tried the patty melt, $8.95. The request for medium-rare came out well-done but not dry. Fresh garnishes, and the grilled red onions on the patty melt added some sweetness. Not special, but not bad either.
