After some yucky dim sum and less than lukewarm dinner reviews I never thought I'd go back to Top Island Seafood. $6/lb lobster lured one branch of the family here a couple of weeks ago and they were satisfied enough to bring the rest of us over tonight. Obviously I was skeptical but after dinner tonight I'm almost ready to jump on the bandwagon. First of all, the lobster was down to $2.99 per pound. While the lobster wasn't great, who can complain about an almost 8 pound plate for only $23? And the rest of the dishes were real winners. The eggplant salted fish hotpot, bean thread abalone hotpot, filet mignon cubes, pork chop with spicy salt, sticky fried rice and steamed black cod were all winners. Even ordinary dishes like ong choy with chili and yee mein were excellent. Obviously this place has yet to be re-discovered. Even with the lobster special, the restaurant was only just full and it's not like people were waiting in line to get in. Don't know how long the $2.99 special lasts, but it does seem like Top Island is a worthwhile dinner destination at this point in time. Street address is 740 E. Valley Bl. in Alhambra.
