I have been searching for this recipe for years. A lady from Louisiana came to our small TX town & opened a restaurant. Everything was fabulous. She served several different dishes with a scrumptious sauce called tomato gravy.
This was served on everything from shrimp on a bed of rice to grits & fried or over easy eggs. She always served thin toast with the gravy dishes & the toast butter was seasoned too. People would come in late & always say "fix me something with the tomato gravy".
Unfortunately, after about a year, she passed away & her secret recipe went with her. I have looked in cookbooks from Louisiana & tried many, but have never come close to her wonderful creamy sauce...kinda looked like tomato soup, but a paler color & no visible bits of tomato present.
Is this a Cajun thing or an old southern recipe? Do you have a wonderful tomato gravy recipe & story you would like to share?
