Is it time to replace my Braun immersion blender?

Kaymoz | Feb 4, 201607:19 AM     31

There is nothing quite like my Braun immersion blender in the US market today!!

I am sure others who ever had this versatile kitchen tool will agree. With a 400 watt motor, it has the power to crush ice in its purpose designed jug, a task most other hand blenders can't touch. So quality smoothies are a snap!

But I have to wonder when it is time to replace the thing when replacement parts availability becomes a challenge.... It wasn't easy when a plastic piece broke on the immersion wand itself a few years ago, but I did find that new part, learning in the process that Braun discontinued this model here in the US but still sells something similar in Europe.

Now I have broken the top plastic attachment knob on the blade for the small food chopper, and cannot repair it. (This part is in the right foreground in the photo.) I can only find one US source for the replacement part which will cost me $20 or so. For that price, I could buy any number of small food choppers. But another appliance would not only take up more storage space but be clunkier to use -- the Braun is pretty handy on the counter when switching the motor part between the various attachments during preparation projects.

Ah, the dilemma of the beloved but obsolete appliance!!! Chowhounds, I respectfully solicit your thoughts, advice and collective wisdom!
