I pass this place several times a week and never saw anybody ever eating in there so naturally I was suspicios of the place. Naturally I was wrong ! I have not eaten much upscale Mexican in New York but if I did I hope it would taste as good as this. Appetizers were good 1) A tomato broth with shrimp,vegtables and chive oil. This was very good but a bit too salty. 2) Calamar Azteca - Sauteed Calamari and chorizo with black bean puree, habenero and yellow tomato sauce- WOW ! I cannot remember the last time I had such a delicious appetizer . Entees - 1) Grilled Hanger Steak with purple potato puree, crispy bacon, Shitake mushrooms with chili habenero sauce. This was absolutely delicious and the hanger steak was not chewy ( I did order it rare though ). 2) Mariscada - Assorted and ample shellfish- Shrimp, clams, mussell scallops and calamari with marinated rice finished witha chili guajillo sauce. This was outstanding.
We did not order dessert because we would have exploded. They have all kinds of Margharitas and good mexican bottled beer in addition to Sangria. This place needs more support as another chowhound pointed out a while back. IF it does not get this support they will probably go out of business and that would be a terrible shame. By the way most Entees are in the $11 to $14 range and the appetizers roughly half that.
They do not list their address on the Menu but they are located on 31st and 36th avenue in Astoria( right on the corner)
