As if there was ever any doubt, Joe H knows his Giardiniera. A few months ago Joe H, best known in these parts as the author of the amazing Chowhound post Unquestionably The Absolute Best In America, suggested Tenuta's giardiniera was the best in the known universe, even better than his previous choice of Mama Lil's.
Take it from a guy who has 5-6 kinds of giardiniera in his pantry and has tried at least 20 different kinds of giardiniera, all the way from in-house Chicago beef stand to the most commercial of the commercial, Tunuta's is excellent. I even, slightly, prefer Tunuta's to my two current favorites Bari's on Grand house brand giardiniera and El Primo giardiniera.
To keep this Chicago specific I ate the giardiniera with Minelli Brother's XX-Hot Italian Sausage, which I posted about a few weeks ago, and bagel from NY Bagel and Bialy. Please see attached picture.
Tenuta's giardiniera is available at their deli in Kenosha, web site or Woodman's in Kenosha. I stopped at Woodman's, a mega grocery midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, last week, specifically to buy Tenuta's, and picked up half a case. I also bought Tenuta's hot cut sport peppers in oil, but have not opened them yet.
Thanks again Joe H, you are a Chowhound to be admired.
