Tasteless codfish cakes

I like homemade codfish cakes, especially with Atlantic cod, but find that Pacific cod is completely tasteless. I've been thinking that fish sauce or anchovies might help but have no idea how much to use. Has anyone tried this idea for tasteless fish? Incidentally, I have recently had codfish cakes made with Atlantic cod and they were wonderful, but I now live on the west coast!
