smoked rabbit appetizer - sliced pieces of smoked rabbit (bone in) served room temperature on a bed of shredded lettuce. I thought it was just okay. It wasn't smokey enough for my taste. It was actually kind of bland. I wasn't thrilled with all the deboning I had to do either. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by the rabbit in chili oil at Sichuan Garden.
pork and leek dumplings - steamed dumplings stuffed with minced pork and leeks (although I tasted more pork than leek); served with a soy based dipping sauce. I can't rave enough about these. They were clearly homemade with thin skins yet strong enough to hold the plentiful filling. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they were better than Wang's dumplings. They were so plump and juicy. Another thing I liked was that a small order got you TWELVE.
lamb with cumin - meaty shreds of lamb stir fried with cumin powder, lots of red chili peppers and greens. This dish was good but I wasn't as impressed as I had hoped. The lamb was certainly tender and flavorful but after awhile I think it got kind of boring. I understand cumin is powerful and takes over a dish but I'd have liked to taste some other flavors too. I liked the the heat from the cumin and peppers (although I would have preferred hotter). The dish was huge and there was definately plenty to take home.
The service was prompt and curtious. The waitress was knowledgable and able to answer all my questions. She was quick taking my order and bringing the check but without making me feel rushed.
I can't wait to go back again and try more things. The lamb soup with bread sounded heavenly. As did the red braised pork. Next time I hope to leave room for dessert too.
