A tale of two restaurants - Harrison and Jarnac

Jonathan Saw | May 10, 2006 12:52 PM

Recently needed to make reservations for a large party and called Harrison and Jarnac. Neither one could take the reservation but their was a complete difference in attitude.

Details: 10 people, Thursday night, anytime after 7 but not 11 PM

The Harrison:
SNOTTY. They said they never took reservations for any party over 7. They only had one table for 7 people and they could "let us have it" at 5:00. Asked if there was a way to push some tables together and they said "we never take reservations for parties over 7." Totally ridiculous. I think it's the last time I go there. I can't get the rid of the feeling that they are completely unappreciative of their clientele.

They were very nice, but said "I'm sorry we don't take reservations for parties over 8; our tables and restaurant aren't big enough" I tried to push a little and they said they wanted to make sure that everyone has a good experience and from previous experience 8 people is best for them. They then said they hoped I could come another time. How great is that!? Although I'm disappointed I can't have dinner there I will most definitely keep it on my list.

I'm still shocked that some places can be so completely clueless about customer service, even those that are doing well. While others just "get it." After all these years in the city I should stop being shocked I guess.
