Diner No. 1: Columbia Diner, recommended by someone on this board. Rating: **. Food was average, service good. I ordered a turkey dinner; it was passable, but not too flavorful. Overall, a disappointment; I have no plans to go back anytime soon.
Diner No. 2: Lyndon City Line Diner. Rating: **1/2. Service (actually the kitchen; the waitress was fine)was very, very slow. Turkey dinner was about as good as Columbia, but there was a huge amount. Vegetables were average as was the salad. The house dressing (creamy raspberry) was not that great. Other members of the party seemed pretty happy with their dishes and the sweet potato fries were good. Overall, slightly better than Columbia.
Conclusion: None of these diners are nearly as good as the South Jersey diners I grew up with (Mastoris, Ponzios, Harrison House, even the Golden Dawn in Moorestown is better). What's up with that? Why can't Lancaster get a decent diner?
