Taiwanese cuisine in San Gabriel next to Golden Deli

carter | Jul 17, 200511:53 PM

Four of 6 in party on Saturday night were Taiwanese and wanted to taste the flavors of back home, so we all went to Wan Chun, a true 30' wide hole in the wall just west of the Golden Deli Vietnamese restaurant on Las Tunas near Mission Dr. in San Gabriel.
What a find! Had 9 entree-sized dishes and 6 ate for under $50. No glamour, no booze, not a lot of room, but oh the food was really good. Most items ordered were on the spicier side, as were indicated on the menu. Their sauces were quite tasty and varied, and as you would expect, they did a good job with fish, pork, and eggplant in various preparations. Pork blood cake was an interesting flavor I had not tried.
Repeat business seemed the focus of the customer base, although one couple walked in as we were leaving who were first-timers like I was.
819 W. Las Tunas Dr., SG, 626.284.6031
