After reading the review in the Chronicle some time back and reading some of Scrumptious Chef's notes I had to try El Taco Rico. I had the enchiladas w/a butterflied fried quail on top and it was delicious. I rarely eat enchiladas and this one was very unique and filled me up just right.
I hadn't been to that area in some time and it reminded me of another gem on Montopolis called "Asada Neuvo Leon". They grill beef and chicken over mesquite and also offer a grilled chile salsa that is served in about a 1 gallon mortar bowl. Talk about the flavors exploding in your mouth. I think they are open Wed-Sun. and it is on the corner of Ponca inside an auto repair and car wash. I would rate both of these places as among my new favorites.
