Swiss Hotel in Sonoma -- Mediocre Bar Food

Based on Jennie Sheek's recommendation, I headed to Sonoma last weekend. Doing the *tourist* thing, my friends and I decided to hit a few wineries on the way so we were pretty famished when we got to downtown Sonoma. Sadly, the restaurant does not open until 5:00. It was 4:00 and none of us wanted to wait an hour.

Thinking the quality carried through to the entire establishment, we decided to suffice ourselves with the bar fare that was offered. Immediately placed before us was a pretty standard thickly-cut sourdough and some herbed oil. The bread was decent enough, but we all found the herbed oil to be a bit too laden with red pepper chili flakes. Plain oil or butter would have been nice, but none were to be had.

The three of us opted to share a pizza and salad. The pizza was a thin crust with fresh roma tomatoes, sausage, and large mushrooms. And the salad was frisee with thinly sliced pears and roquefort cheese. The salad was definitely the preferred dish but sadly a bit too laden with heavy warm oil. There was a quite a pool of the dressing left on the plate after the edible ingredients were gone. The pizza was just "bleh." Nothing exceptional. Edible, yes, but no one even cared to finish it and were certainly weren't stuffed.

I'll still give the restaurant a try another time, but was incredibly disappointed by the bar fare.
