I was happy to discover a new sushi restaurant near downtown last night.
It's in the Little Tokyo Square on the 3rd floor near 3rd Street and Alameda.
Funny name. Sushi Go 55.
I started with fried oyster appetizer. It was great. They were Hama Hama oysters from Washington and they were prepared just right.
The fish was so fresh and tasty. The shiro maguro was one of the best I've tasted. The albacore had thin slivers of onion and a ponzu like sauce on top. Very good.
I liked the Giant clam, hamachi, and uni there.
The sushi chef told me that they make their own soy sauce that is lighter and less salty so that you can taste the flavor of the fish better.
He also made a Masutake mushroom nigiri that was seasoned so no soy sauce was necessary. They were delicious. I remember seeing these mushrooms on an Iron Chef episode.
Depending on your appetite and if you go for toro, uni and the higher priced items. Food excluding drinks should run between $40-60 per person.
