Non-sushi Japanese restaurant?

Amy L. | Jun 24, 2004 05:58 PM

I moved back to NYC from the Berkeley, CA area last year. There was one restaurant in Berkeley that I REALLY miss and I want to try to find someplace like it here, if possible. This restaurant (called Norikonoko) was a homestyle Japanese restaurant that had a bit of sashimi on the menu and pretty much no sushi. They specialized in amazing grilled fish dishes, really quality Udon and Ramen, some grilled meats, and lots of good pickles and salads.

Is there any place like that here in NYC? We really miss that grilled fish. I am willing to go to ANY borough (I live in Brooklyn), although I figured Manhattan was the best bet. So far the closest I have come is Donguri on the upper east side but it wasn't quite there. Please help!

And by the way, if you are ever in Berkeley CA, go to Norikonoko on Telegraph Ave and have yourself some ramen or the grilled Saba. Oh my god...
