Sometimes you have a stop at a restaurant solely because of its name. When I saw the sign for KL Restaurant at 4401 Balboa St., I just had to stop there since KL is the last part of my moniker (representing a longtime employer). However, if seeing a restaurant named KL was a surprise, going into the restaurant was a bigger surprise. Here is a Chinese restaurant that has received scant attention on this board (Xiao Yang, who I presume still lurks here, mentioned it once in passing), located pretty much nowhere as far as restaurants go, that was packed to the gills on a Wednesday night. (In contrast, the smaller Hakka Restaurant, on the comparable corner a block away on Cabrillo, was not quite full.) I had the sauteed rock cod with vegetables and it was fantastic. Interestingly they have been around for quite a while, as indicated by the signage awarding them the Chinese Times Restaurant of the Year award for 2003. (Funny that I've never heard of that award before.) Any other information about the food here would be appreciated.
