Surfers Grill - on the beach at Stinson Beach

Malcolm Ruthven | Dec 29, 201110:19 AM     1

My Christmas day plans were thwarted by an emergency in another family, so I took myself out to a gourmet Christmas meal :-) After a great drive to Stinson Beach, I was happy to see a sign on the highway announcing that the Surfers Grill was open. Since every other place I had seen was closed, I happily made it the location of my Christmas dinner (I wasn't the only one). The very friendly woman said they had been open on Christmas day for several years, and I could see that the patrons there appreciated that. She recommended the fish and chips, which I ordered, and the fish (cod) was very good, about as good as fish in fish and chips gets. I'm sorry to have to say the that the "chips"/fries were forgettable, but hey, you don't expect everything at a real on-the-beach food shack.

I should note that (1) they don't take credit cards and (2) there were multiple tourists there with not enough cash (the ATM machine in town was out of cash). The woman behind the counter was extremely gracious in accommodating them, including offering an order of fish and chips for the lesser cash they had, taking checks, and also just giving them food for a promise to come back and pay.
