Suggestions for first trip to LA?

Hi-I'm coming to town in 2 weeks for a meeting. I will be staying at the Westin Bonaventure on Figueroa St. I'm looking for some recs-I enjoy just about any type of food and am looking mostly for moderately priced places, although one splurge suggestion would be nice.Really enjoy Asian food (Thai, Vietnames, Japanese-both sushi and noodle etc) but all food is welcome!
1) For the first night, I was hoping to snag something within walking distance or short cab hop from the hotel. I'll have been in a plane 6 hours so walking will be a good thing. No particular cuisine-anything good is good!
2) The second day is a Thursday so I was going to go to Chinatown and catch the end of the Farmer's Market. One of my favorite ways to spend an evening in a new city is stroll around its Chinatown, capping it off with a meal of dim sum with special emphasis on dumplings. What's not to be missed?
3) The last two nights I'm up for anything. Would really like to try Charmeau-is it going to cost a bundle to cab it over there from the hotel? I don't have any idea how much cabs cost out there.
4) One splurge-worthy suggestion? Can be any cuisine.
Thank you so much for your input!!!!
