My husband and I, along with about 50 others, will be in Stockholm around September 10 for several days. We are staying at the Grand Hotel. My husband is the unofficial tour guide since he and I travel abroad more often than the others. On Sunday we will be greeting folks as they come in and we expect to be asked for recommendations for lunch (although the concierge is probably a better person to ask). Could you give me some recommendations for several spots for lunch in the general area of the Grand Hotel? There may be groups of 10 or 12 at once so it can't be too intimate a space. I would like it to be traditional Swedish with a menu that is not offerings that are not too avant garde or cutting edge since it will have to appeal to a broad range of tastes. I'd like them to be congenial places, not elegant since most of them will have jet lag and may not even have been able to check into their rooms yet. Also lively bars in the neighborhood that are friendly and welcoming but not too raucous since we would like to be able to converse easily. This group will probablyh go out for cocktails every night so several recommendations would be ever so helpful. We can always get a driver if your recommended spots aren't exactly within easy walking distance. This is a fairly affluent group so price isn't TOO much of a consideration.
Thanks to all my fellow Chowhounders. You always come through for me.
