We ate well!
*Lilla Ego: we went c8pm without a booking (apparently it's 3 months in advance) and after a 30 min wait, with a glass of wine, we had a table (great as I was expecting to be seated at the bar). We were seated and served by the head chef (so I was told by the people sitting next to us!) and it the best meal of our trip - everything was packed with flavour and so delicious; I can see why it's so highly rated. We chose the cheapest (herring, egg yolk and browned butter) and most expensive starters (lobster, red curry and wild mushrooms) and I couldn't choose a favourite. The mains were similarly good, both with interesting pickled components to contrast with richer flavours - pork belly with courgette and parmesan puree plus cod with broccoli, lotus root & coriander. Great wine too, on the advice of the sommelier.
*Adam & Albin: nothing was bad but it was my least favourite meal and the most expensive. We did the five course menu and out of the ten dishes only two stood out to me - pumpkin agnoletti with a mushroom & truffle sauce and charred pumpkin seed oil; lemon sole with roasted poblano (this was the ingredient which made the dish sing) and yellow beet. Good wine though! When the waiter explained the menu she said it was the same amount of food whether you went with the 5 or 10 course option but having seen what others were served, those having ten courses definitely had more as the dishes which were in common seemed to the same size for both them and us. I found five courses a lot so really wouldn't have wanted ten. Delicious wine.
*Speceriet - my favourite dish of the weekend was theirs - ribbons of celeriac with an intense cheese sauce and walnuts (it's a small menu and this was the only veggie option). The pudding was not good but everything else was delicious - reindeer kebab, served in a mini pitta bread; the tenderest squid with fennel & chilli; deer with smoked potatoes and bone marrow. All wine is available by the glass, much of which you could try to help you choose.
We tended to skip lunch as our hotel provided a good buffet breakfast, which non-guests seemed to also be tucking into, so could be worth looking at if anyone needs a breakfast/brunch option - it was the Miss Clara Hotel. The bar at Fotografiska is worth calling in at if you're local and next time I'd book their restaurant , as several people said how good it was.
