Went to Stella for the 2nd time in a week last night. It was amazing to see how packed the place was - the primary room, side room, and the outdoor cafe - on a Wednesday night. I'm happy to see a restaurant at this site finally succeeding.
However, I knew it was too good to last. In less than 2 weeks open, the menu has already gone through serveral changes and a price increase.
When we went on Friday night, I pointed out that several things on the on-line menu weren't on that night's menu, most noteably the eggplant appetizer. I pointed it out to the waitress, and sure enough the next day, the on-line menu was updated.
As far as prices go - Everything on the menu - except the wines - was increased by $1 since Friday night. (If you look at the current menu on-line, add $1 to everything.)
Not a big increase, I know. But just seems a bit quick to already be increasing prices. Hopefully, they'll restrain themselves from additional increases in coming weeks/months, and understand that part of their success is due to the current price point. Once prices start going above the 20's, they'll be just another high-priced Washington St restaurant (e.g. Umbra, Union) that becomes more the special occassion place, than a weekly neighborhood destination.
