Steelhead Brewing, S.F.

squid-kun | Nov 4, 200210:11 PM

The San Francisco location of Steelhead Brewing Co., in the Anchorage shopping center near Fisherman's Wharf, has shut its doors. A sign on the door last week said the brew pub was closed "until further notice," but it doesn't appear it'll be reopening any time soon; the furniture in the front bar area has been removed.

The food was nothing special, but I enjoyed the beer. My favorite was the India pale ale (dubbed Bombay Bomber), hoppy but well balanced. They also made a strong ale (dubbed Fort Point) -- a rare example of the style -- that took a gold medal a few years back at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

The Steelhead in Burlingame is still open. Coincidentally, I had a beer there just a day before seeing the sign at the San Francisco location.
