I know everyone is probably tired of Sripraphai posts, but I just had to ask a question about my absolutely AWFUL experience. I went a few days ago with a friend and ordered the "catfish" per numerous recommendations on this site. Well, what I ordered was the "Spicy Catfish" entree, although I'm pretty sure there were 1 or 2 other catfish dishes on the menu.
It was perhaps the most vile dish I've ever eaten - no joke. The sauce the fish was bathing in tasted like battery acid - very metallic. I usually love spicy food but this was just acrid. My friend and I felt sick before we even left the restaurant. I don't think I've ever had such terrible heartburn. Blech.
We also ordered pad thai, which was ok, but not great. The pork satay was dry. I did enjoy the "thai ice tea" however. Two of the three waitresses were very nasty to us... overall a very negative experience.
I'm definitely going to go back since this restaurant has been so highly praised, but I was wondering: is this "spicy catfish" really what everyone is recommending? If so, what is it supposed to taste like? That dish was seriously so vile, I just can't comprehend it. Looking for some help here. I'm generally a fan of Thai food and I'll probably order more curry-noodle oriented dishes on my next visit. Perhaps I'm just not cut out for "authentic thai spice".
Thanks for any info you think will be helpful -
