Spring Street Cafe in West Roxbury

Just went to the new Spring Street Cafe for breakfast. This place is right on the corner of Route 1 (VFW Parkway) and Spring St in West Roxbury (used to be a chicken wing place).

New ownership really cleaned this place up! It's almost unrecognizable inside. Very neat and clean with a cute bistro look about it. While they are only serving breakfast and lunch, you can tell that they are gearing up for dinner eventually. In fact I caught in the paper that they are applying for a beer license, which tells me that they will soon have all three meals available.

The breakfast offerings for right now are fairly basic - omlettes, pancakes, egg sandwiches. However, they do have a very good baked french toast with a brown sugar topping. The omlettes are solid and very generous. Service is average, but the waitress mentioned that they were short a person, so overall it's hard to complain. I think that once they get the basics down they'll expand the menu (the open kitchen is way too big for this menu, so I think they anticipate growing!)

I think this place has a good future - the area is very lacking in decent places to eat, and the owners seem like they really want to create a good place. If the line out the door is any indication, I think this place is going to thrive.
