Spring Streeet Smokehouse, downtown LA

just tried it and its definitely sort of out-of-place in its stretch of chinatown along the aforementioned spring street. supposedly the owner has a catering operation in the same building that also serves as the food commissary for a detential corrections facility. kind of weird. also, by extension, the menu here is sort of weird. smoked beef sandwiches with gorgnoalza cheese sauce, known and billed as "the best sandwich in the world". also, smoke turkey legs, stu7ffed chicken breasts, bbq pasta with brisket bolognese, and of course your regular bbbq stuff, anyways, tried the comobo of a bunch of meats such as beef ribs, links, briskets along with tater salad and fire roasted veggies and sweet potatoer cheesecake for dessert. definitely a lot of food, and the sauce is sweet and nicely vinegary at the same supposedly carollinas inspired. usually in the la whereabouts they don't use a carolina sauce. the beef ribs where ok, not the best like phillips bbq, the links were pretty good though, and the brisket was all right though a little too fatty and too chewy rather than melting in the mouth. but that sauce along with loafs of bread on each table helped to take the meal a long way. good stuff, though not the greatest and the potato cheesecake was pretty good. defintitely a nice unique, sort of classy in a very unclassy way bbq tpe joint. the location almost helps to elevate cuisine here it truly feels like slumming it.
